What's the difference with Disney Genie and Disney Genie+? We are going to break it all down for you now and hopefully you will have a better understanding of the service. There are 3 services coming this fall to Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland.
Disney Genie is a FREE planning service app that will work with your current My Disney Experience App and account. It’s designed to be a personal V.I.P. assistant to help guide you through the parks and let you know the best times to ride an attraction, catch a show, locate a quick service location, show you availability of a walk up waiting list table service and even be able to chat with a personal assistant. It's like having your own personal tour guide with you the entire day!! It will continuously update your plans throughout your day based on your location, movement, and wait times to help you get the most out of your day. Essentially, Genie is designed to help maximize the magic in your day!
Disney Genie plus is a paid service and will be replacing FastPasses. For $15 per day per guest (at Walt Disney World Resort) or $20 per day per guest (at Disneyland) you will be able to choose as many "Lightning Lanes" as you like per day. It can either be purchased for the entire length of your stay or the morning of your theme park reservations with a valid theme park ticket starting at 7am. Disney Genie+ is available to all 4 theme parks (at Walt Disney World) and 2 theme parks (at Disneyland). There will be over 40 rides available (at Walt Disney World between the 4 theme parks) and over 15 rides (at Disneyland). To utilize Disney Genie+ service, Walt Disney World Hotel guests will be able to start making your selections at 7 AM, prior to park opening before others guests enter a park. You will be allowed to make 2 "Lighting Lane" Passes (FastPasses) prior to entering the park. All other Walt Disney World guests who are not staying at a Walt Disney World hotel will be able to make their selections once they enter a park. Once one of your "Lightning Lane" passes has been used, you’ll be able to go back into the Disney Genie+ and make another "Lightning Lane" reservation based on availability and time slots offered in the app. You can continuously schedule these "Lighting Lane" passes throughout the day at your current park, or if you have a park hopper ticket, make a "Lighting Lane" pass at another park.
Highly popular attractions (like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom, Radiator Springs Racers in Disney California Adventure Park, WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure at Disney California Adventure Park, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at EPCOT) will NOT be listed on Genie+. That means that even if you pay for Genie+ you will NOT be able to select a time for/use the "Lightning Lane" at those attractions. Instead, if you want to use the "Lightning Lane" for those attractions, you’ll have to pay for the attractions INDIVIDUALLY. (prices have not been released for these attractions at this time). Rides that currently utilize the Virtual Queue Boarding Groups will continue to do so as they do now starting at 7am in your app with no fee required.
If you choose to not purchase Disney Genie+ for the entire length of your stay you are eligible to purchase it daily in the morning then begin making your "Lightning Lane" passes. The cost will still remain $15 to WDW & $20 to Disneyland.
After previously using MaxPass in Disneyland myself and using FastPasses in Walt Disney World, I'm eager to see how this is going to work. MaxPass in Disneyland was a wonderful service and we loved using it. It gave us the flexibility to pick available times for popular attractions so we could move freely during the day without standing in long lines. MaxPass gave us plenty of time to experience so much more than we thought we would have time for. With Walt Disney World having much more to see and do, I feel that this service will be a great addition for guests looking for the benefit of maximizing their time at the parks. Walt Disney World already offers VIP tours that run $400-$700 p/h so to have Disney Genie+ for $15 p/p, p/day doesn't seem so bad if it's going to offer the same type of service but virtually.
