Important ways to Disinfect your hotel room while on vacation

Updated: Aug 17, 2020

Many resorts are going above and beyond to keep you and your family safe when you go on vacation! But there are many things you can do to ensure your safety during your stay.

  1. Take Your Shoes Off - Leave your shoes at the door and keep another pair of shoes to switch into to only wear in the room. This will help keep those germs you pick up during the day out of your room.

  2. Travel with Disinfectant Wipes - Always wipe down high touch surfaces in your room upon entering. Wipe down doorknobs, sinks, drawer handles, telephones, and other surfaces like end tables or bedside tables, bathroom counters, etc. Wipe down any items that may have been touched by housekeeping, including bathroom counter.

  3. Disinfecting Shower / Tub - Run EXTREMELY hot water for 5 minutes to disinfect and sanitize prior to using the shower or tub.

  4. Luggage - Use disinfectant wipes to wipe down luggage, strollers or anything else that has been traveling with you from outside the room or through airports. Wipe down bags or any carry-on items. If you use your stroller daily make sure to wipe the wheels down before bringing into your room.

  5. Bedding - Make sure you keep any items off the bed until cleaned and disinfectant. This includes your body! Keep the place you sleep as clean as possible and free from germs.

  6. Wash Your Hands - As soon as you remove your shoes and finish wiping down everything wash your hands. Make sure you wash your hands every time you enter your room to help eliminate the spread of germs from outside your room. Some folks even recommend taking a shower when you come in from, since germs can linger on your clothing and hair.

  7. Food Storage Bags - Pack daily clothes in food storage or Ziploc bags. When you remove your dirty clothes put them back in the bags to keep clean clothes from the soiled clothes. You will also reduce how many germs you spread around the room. Bring different sizes for smaller items like socks, bathing suits or Face Masks!

  8. Ventilation - If you have a window or door in your room that can be opened, it's a good idea to let some fresh air in! Increasing ventilation even a little bit can help air out your room.
